This attractive 18th Century manor house is the kind of property one comes across only rarely. It is in the Canedo de Basto region at Gandarela, between Fafe and Baulha. Surrounded by stunning views in a 2500m2 well cared for garden, the house enjoys several varieties of trees such as apple, pine, cherry, camelia and plum. Only 600 metres from the house, in the village of Gandarela, are cafés, supermarkets restaurants, shops and a bank. The town of Arco de Baulhe is 8km away and has a supermarket, shops and restaurants of which ‘Caneiro’ is recommended for it’s good but simple local food; you can also find a hypermarket 16km away in Fafe. Local fairs are held at Fafe and Cabeceiras weekly.
The Douro valley, a World Heritage Site due to the area’s outstanding beauty, is also great to explore. The velvety vintage wines, of the Vinho do Porto, and younger more intense flavoured wines can be easily found in the surrounding area. The town of Mateus is also within easy reach; it is a beautiful town to visit and the home of the famous Mateus wine.

Details of Accommodation 

The house is beautifully furnished, with style and good taste. You enter the grounds via a large granite gateway and a driveway leads you past two old fig trees, a lawn and the property’s old Chapel. You can either enter the property via a patio at the front of the house or from the pool and terrace area at the rear which opens into the spacious L-shaped sitting/games room furnished with a fireplace, sofas, ping pong table; to the left is a bathroom used as a changing room for the pool. Left of this bathroom a door opens to stairs that lead to the first floor. On the other side of the stairs at the far end of the hall, is a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom/wc. On the first floor is a hall with doors to the upper floor. Off the hall is a sitting room with sofas to seat 12, arranged in front of a fireplace and TV as well as a dining room with antique furniture and table to seat 12. The kitchen has fitted cupboards, cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine plus doors to a small dining area.
On the upper level is a corridor off which are the five bedrooms. There are two twin bedrooms, one single bedroom, a double bedroom, a bathroom/wc and a shower room/wc; a further double bedroom has an ensuite shower room/wc. Rooms on this level are linked by a corridor around the house that overlooks a delightful internal courtyard below. The house has central heating.

In the garden there is a pond with gold fish, a 10m x 6m swimming pool with Roman steps, and nice lawns and fruit trees.
