Afife beach is a quiet spot perfect for surfers, or just 4km north is the lovely sandy beach of Moledo; a bit more lively is Praia De Ancora which has several good restaurants. Just north of here is the charming riverside town of Caminha, where you can catch a ferry to Galicia in Spain. During your holiday in Minho, take the road from Viana do Castelo, which follows the beautiful River Lima to the charming town of Ponte de Lima which has a spectacular market twice a month. A trip to Oporto is also worthwhile; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the original Roman city walls still standing, and contains the delightful Ribeira area along the riverside full of bars and restaurants.
